To install your copy of AgenaRisk on Windows, simply run the
executable file
AgenaRisk_[VERSION_NUMBER]_windows.exe
In Windows 7 and Windows Vista you must be logged in as administrator
(or alternatively you can right click on the exectuable file name and
select 'run as administrator').
The installation wizard will take you through the installation steps.
Before you run AgenaRisk for the first time you need a license file
and a key. You will
have received, or will
shortly receive these by email. The license file (which has an
extension .llf) is an attachment to the email message, and the key is a
string like "JMTXB-URQGP-QLFWR-WHGRM" that will be stated in the
body of the email message.
You must save the licence file (.llf) into your installation
directory. This is normally c:\Program Files\AgenaRisk
Next start AgenaRisk by double-clicking the AgenaRisk icon on your
desktop, selecting the AgenaRisk icon from the Start menu. If using Windows 7 or Windows Vista, you will need to select 'run as administrator' the first time.
This allows AgenaRisk to fully activate your liscense key.
Finally, type the license key when requested (ensuring that there are
no spaces before or afterwards if you are cutting and pasting).
Once you have entered it correctly, you
will be invited to accept a Licence Agreement, after which you will be
able to use the software.
Unix/Linux users follow the same instructions as above, with the
following exceptions:
1. You first need to extract the
installer from the tarred and gzipped archive as follows:
tar zxvf
AgenaRisk_[VERSION_NUMBER]_unix.sh.tar.gz
Then you can run the installer by typing:
./AgenaRisk_[VERSION_NUMBER]_unix.sh
2. To run Agenrisk use the command:
./AgenaRisk
from the directory where you installed it.
If you already have AgenaRisk installed along with a long-term or
permanent licence, do the following:
- Uninstall your existing version of AgenaRisk by double-clicking
on "uninstall.exe" in your AgenaRisk installation directory (typically
c:\Program Files\AgenaRisk).
- Copy your existing licence file from your AgenaRisk installation
directory to somewhere else on your computer e.g. your Desktop. This
file ends in the extension ".ull" and its name will consist of 8 random
letters e.g. "hjhgyddg.ull".
- Delete your AgenaRisk installation directory in Windows Explorer.
- Install the new version of AgenaRisk.
- Delete the "sxlrumno.llf" evaluation licence file from your new
AgenaRisk installation directory.
- Copy your licence file from where you saved it in step 2 to your
AgenaRisk installation directory.
- Run AgenaRisk (see section 5 of this README file).
If you already have AgenaRisk installed along with an evaluation
licence (active or expired), do the following:
- Uninstall your existing version of AgenaRisk by double-clicking
on "uninstall.exe" in your AgenaRisk installation directory (typically
c:\Program Files\AgenaRisk).
- Delete your AgenaRisk installation directory in Windows Explorer.
- Install the new version of AgenaRisk.
- Run AgenaRisk (see section 5 of this README file) and type in
your licence key code. This will have been sent to you via e-mail.
Note: If you have a bespoke version of AgenaRisk installed, you
should *not* replace it with any new versions of AgenaRisk. You should
install new versions alongside your bespoke version.
Once you have installed AgenaRisk, you will first need to delete any
files with the extension ".ull" or ".llf" from your AgenaRisk
installation directory. For Windows users, this is typically:
c:\Program Files\AgenaRisk
You will then need to copy your permanent licence file into your
AgenaRisk installation directory, run AgenaRisk (see section 5 of this
README file) and type in your licence key code.
In order to start AgenaRisk, double-click the AgenaRisk icon on your
desktop, select the AgenaRisk icon from the Start menu or, in the case
of Linux/Unix, run the command:
./AgenaRisk
from the directory where you installed it.
The first time you run AgenaRisk, you will be prompted to enter a
licence key to start your evaluation (see Installing
AgenaRisk for the first time)
To help you get started using AgenaRisk, a set of tutorials is
available from within the application. You can access these by clicking
on AgenaRisk Tutorials in the Help menu. This will open a page in your
browser listing the available
tutorials. (Note: If you have a web browser already open but minimised
you will need to maximise the browser to view the listing page.)
Alternatively, you can view the AgenaRisk tutorials online at:
http://www.agenarisk.com/resources/tutorials.shtml
In addition, a full reference manual is available. To access it, click
on AgenaRisk Help in the application Help menu.
Finally, AgenaRisk comes with a wide range of documented example
models. These can be found in the Examples subdirectory of your
AgenaRisk installation. A
full list of the available examples can also be found online:
http://www.agenarisk.com/resources/example_models.shtml
When using AgenaRisk, you should be aware of the following issues:
- Occasionally, on certain Windows configurations, when you try to
open a model,
a "Null Pointer Exception" error message will appear and the model will
not load. If you try to open the model again immediately, it should
work.
- If you delete any items from the Risk Map, the clipboard will be
cleared.
- In certain versions of linux there are graphics problems: images
are not saved if you add them to your model and the Properties dialog
box is truncated.
- When editing a node's properties, changes in the "Node States"
and "Node Probability Table" sections of the properties dialog should
be applied separately. If you change both sections and then click
"Apply", any expression you specify will get reset. This happens
because the new states are applied first, which has the effect of
clearing the expression fields.
- Sometimes, when you make changes to an expression on a simulation
node
and when a simulated value falls outside that node's range, an error
will appear. If you ignore this error and click on OK or Apply again,
the NPT will be generated correctly.
- If you are in the Risk Table view and you switch between the Risk
Objects in the Risk Explorer, occasionally the Risk Table appears
empty. To show it, you need to click on the Risk Map tab and then click
on the Risk Table tab.
- If AgenaRisk stops responding upon viewing Properties for a node
restart AgenaRisk and reload the model.
Switch to Risk Table view. Go through the properties of each of the
table entries. If an entry is not attached to a node, delete that
entry.
- If you encounter the error message 'JDesktop Integration
Components binary has encountered a problem and needs to
close.' when previewing results on Sensitivity Analysis, please change
your default browser to Internet Explorer. Alternatively, you can
select Options > Report Settings from the Sensitivity Analysis
Dialog. Then uncheck 'View report in internal browser' and press OK.
- If exporting data to CSV, you may find your node names appearing
as #NAME? in any spreadsheet application. This is an issue with older
models that contain non-basic ascii characters.
- If you are unable to install your licence in Windows 7 or Vista,
close AgenaRisk and rerun AgenaRisk by right-clicking on AgenaRisk and
selecting 'Run as administrator'.
- If you are using an expression for the Node Probability Table of a
Boolean node, then you have to be careful if you decide to customize
the state names (i.e. change the default values "True" and
"False"). If you customize the state names BEFORE defining the
expression then the Node Probability Table will not be calculated
properly. So the workaround is always to customize the state
names AFTER you define
the expression.
